What is Deaf-Blind ?

Deaf-Blind is a term used to describe people dealing with BOTH deafness and blindness. This duel sensory loss compounds the issues of everything in a person’s life. This does not mean that all Deaf-Blind are totally deaf and totally blind. There is such a wide range of variations of deafness and blindness. Some can be totally deaf with low vision or totally blind. Some can be hard of hearing and either low vision or totally blind.

WHAT IS SIGHT AND SOUND IMPAIRED of ST LOUIS ?

Sight And Sound Impaired of St Louis [SASISTL] is a social networking group for people who have both deafness and blindness and can meet others like themselves and feel like they “fit in”. When we meet we can offer encouragement through education or social activities. It is open to their families and volunteers as well, who would like to help by assisting as “eyes” and “ears”.

HOW YOU CAN HELP ?

If you know of someone with both deafness and blindness…….PLEASE tell them about Sight And Sound Impaired of St Louis.

CAN YOU TELL ME ABOUT THE SASISTL MEETINGS ?

At the meetings we may have a guest speaker or have a group discussion about issues involving deafness or blindness. We even have fun and play games where everyone can play. From time to time a group trip somewhere may be planned like a picnic or a museum trip. Interpreters are available at our gatherings.
