The Latest 2010
News from our President
Hello Community,
Yes, it has been a while since my last update report and here is the recap. The Deaf Community Center Executive Committee has been working hard to revitalize the Board of Directors for our community center. We have handpicked individuals that we feel that will represent the Deaf Community Center at its best interest and to share the vision by having a new center in the future, to implement programs, and partnership with other organizations. I realize we are still a long way from our goals, but things are moving toward for a better future for our community.
Our new Board of Directors:
Chair: Aidan Combs
Vice Chair: William Sheldon
Secretary: Paul Blicharz
Treasurer: Denise Byrds
Linda Blicharz
Mary Hale
Katie Kramer
Ron Luebke
DCC hosted its very first Leadership Workshop for the community by having Ms. Julie Rems-Smario, Deaf Hope Executive Director, who gave a workshop on “Creative Fundraising Strategy” to deaf community members and organizational members. During the course of the workshop, she helped raised $513 for DCC by auctioning off the pictures that were created by several groups who participated in the workshop. The pictures were donated to DCC which will be framed and shown in our center. As part of the auctioning, President Jeff Prail had to kiss her feet to show his appreciation for the fundraising she did for DCC. Later in the evening, DCC hosted a Wine and Cheese event.
In DCC news, we have acquired HCSP (Home Care Service Program) for the Deaf elderly. With HCSP volunteers who continue to oversee this program, we realize how special this service is and one of its kind that focus on deaf elderly. With a possible grant opportunity, it is our priority to keep this program alive by continuing to serve the elderly that needs assistance in order to continue to live independently in our community.
We will be celebrating our 13th annual Deaf Awareness Baseball Night at Busch Stadium on Friday, August 20th. Join us and watch our Cardinals play against San Francisco Giants. Please check out our flyer on our website and click ‘Events’.
At last, the good news everyone is waiting for, the 2013 Deafestival is officially underway and an announcement will be made this coming fall.
Jeff Prail,
RTR/DCC President
